![]() ![]() My RSI pain disappeared, and now I can’t imagine going back to a mouse. It was VERY hard to get used to using a Wacom tablet for everything, but eventually I got used to it. Several of the 3D artists/teachers I met at school and later at work used Wacom tablets exclusively due to RSI issues, so I gave it a try. I had pretty much the same problem you describe. So you mean in Blender I could map the left mouse button to a keyboard key? Does that work the same if I click drag to make a large selection of say vertices? Switching to a new 3d app like Blender would be a mission as I've only ever used Maya but I know if I wanted to get a career in this industry I'd have to be willing to learn new 3D software. Turns out that the best solution for me is simply to have them both plugged at the same time (regular tablet + Cintiq), and using either/or when best suited for the task. I should also probably mention that I used to have sharp wrist pain myself from Photoshop use when using it with a regular tablet, which I reverted back to after having issues with Cintiqs which sometimes caused me mild visual discomfort. This is what I have been doing for a couple of years now (previously using Max with Maya-style input) and it's really nice.ĭoing such tests can seem like a daunting task of course, especially if you weren't planning to try a new app It could be worth it though. After getting familiar with the default keys for a little while you can then either adopt them, or remap them to a hybrid setup relying on the usual QWER but still leveraging the Blender "key tapping" paradigm. ![]() ![]() This is extremely light on the hands as you don't need to ever hold a click down and never need to move the mouse around with all these fingers clenched on it. ![]() It consists of tapping a key (G for move aka "grab"), moving the mouse around to perform the action (without any click needed), and confirming - similarly to some CAD software. That said you might also be interested in giving Blender a try, leaving it all by default just to check its unusual input system for move/scale/rotate. This is worth a try, as well as a vertical mouse. This is guess of course, but IMHO the pain you are getting might be coming from the click-hold-drag operation that 3d software like Maya require you to do about 99% of the time (when moving components around, either by tweak or by grabbing handles).Ī stylus can alleviate that a little by letting you perform this action slightly differently. I haven't really used a stylus pen before so I just wonder if it would be cumbersome to use using the viewport cam in Maya. But what about modeling hard surfaces in Maya, and just using the general Maya UI with a tablet how do you guys find it? Can I do everything that I do with a mouse on a PC with a tablet as well? Looking online I was noticing some people talking about Wacom tablets that really help, I might consider investing in one if it will help, god knows it would help immensely from an artistic perspective. Wondering if any of you guys struggle with this as well? I am a bit of a worry wart admittedly and I'd like to work as a 3D artist one day but if I was successful in landing a gig I'd want to be sure I can cope with long hours of 3D artistry without damaging my body and having to give up on my dream job. I've been doing some RSI stretches, I do Yoga about twice a wk and I force myself to take regular breaks every 30 mins or so for about 5 mins all of which helps keep it at bay, but I notice after a hard slog at modeling for several hours I have noticeable discomfort the next day. The nature of 3d modeling using Maya and Zbrush and painting textures in Photoshop naturally means I'm clicking away constantly and over time it aggravates my tendons. Hi, I've been doing 3d modeling for a while now in my spare time and I have a real problem with RSI. ![]() ![]() ![]() When asked whether or not Mickey and Minnie were married, Disney replied that the mice were indeed married in their "private lives", but that they sometimes appear as boyfriend and girlfriend for "screen purposes." Also, in the World War II propaganda film The New Spirit (1942), Donald Duck fills out his income tax and lists his occupation as "actor", and the film The Three Musketeers (2004) includes a DVD bonus feature of the characters reminiscing on their experience filming the feature film.Īnimation historian David Gerstein has noted that although the characters will appear in different settings and sometimes even change their names ( Mickey's Christmas Carol), the characters are still themselves and behave in a way consistent with their natures. This understanding of the characters leading separate lives was welcomed by Walt Disney. In short, characters are more human-like, featuring fewer animal features in their characteristics. Ong in his cultural research of Mickey Mouse and Americanism also agreed with this opinion. The comics writers explained this discrepancy was to present the characters as "real" cartoon characters who are employed by Disney as actors. For example, while Mickey and his friends largely live in the same contemporary setting, they sometimes appear in exotic settings, including period pieces ( Brave Little Tailor, The Nifty Nineties) and fantasy films ( Fantasia, Fun and Fancy Free). This sometimes caused continuity discrepancies. The stories then became a work of collaborative fiction with writers working in different mediums and different countries. In 1930, Disney began a Mickey Mouse comic strip which greatly expanded Mickey's world. An exception to this was the reintroduction of Oswald the Lucky Rabbit in 2010 with the release of Epic Mickey. Although Mickey's stories included the character Pete, who was created in 1925, the world in which Mickey lives holds a continuity largely independent from earlier films. The Mickey Mouse universe essentially originated with the debut of Mickey himself in Plane Crazy (1928). The Walt Disney Company typically uses terms such as Mickey & Friends or Mickey & the Gang to refer to the character franchise. The term "Mickey Mouse universe" is not officially used by The Walt Disney Company, but it has been used by Disney comics author and animation historian David Gerstein. Characters from the Donald Duck universe make occasional appearances in the Mickey Mouse universe and vice versa. Some Disney productions incorporate characters from Disney's animated feature films, such as Bath Day (1946), in which Figaro from Pinocchio appears as Minnie's cat (becoming her recurring pet in several productions), Mickey's Christmas Carol (1983), and – most extensively – Disney's House of Mouse (2001–2003).Īlthough crossovers between the Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck universes have been infrequent, the two universes overlap. The most well-known include Mickey's girlfriend Minnie, pet dog Pluto, friends Goofy, Horace Horsecollar, Clarabelle Cow, and nemesis Pete. The most consistent aspect of the Mickey Mouse universe is the characters. This fictional state was invented by comics writer Carl Barks in 1952 as the location for Donald Duck's home city, Duckburg. state of Calisota, analogous to Northern California. In modern continuity, Mouseton is often depicted as being located in the fictional U.S. Since 1990, the city in which Mickey lives is typically called Mouseton in American comics. Real-world versions also exist in Disneyland and Tokyo Disneyland, called Mickey's Toontown. Still, its first consistent version was created by Floyd Gottfredson in the Mickey Mouse newspaper comic strip. The universe originated from the Mickey Mouse animated short films produced by Disney starting in 1928. The Mickey Mouse universe is a fictional shared universe which is the setting for stories involving Disney cartoon characters Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Pluto, Goofy, and many other characters. Due to the vast filmography of Mickey Mouse and related characters, this infobox does not exhaustively cover all works in this franchise. ![]() ![]() ![]() Of course I need to get used to the new app, but my first impression is positive.Top positive comment After fighting 2 days trying to fix it I decided to install CopyQ.
